Indiana: Map & Directions
Traversing the lush hills and farmlands of southern Indiana and paralleling the mighty Ohio River, the Ohio River Scenic Route marks a time-worn and history-rich corridor that has profoundly influenced the people and communities through which it passes.
As in all areas, fortunes have been won and lost, and communities have seen good times and bad. What has remained constant is the Ohio River and the beautiful landscape it has sculpted over the centuries. Whether clinging to the shores of the river, or linking farms and historic river communities, the Ohio River Scenic Route is the common thread joining a geographically broad and culturally diverse region together.
This region is on the brink of exciting change. The Ohio River is once again drawing people and resources to its communities. New industries are rediscovering the transportation advantages the river has to offer; the gaming industry is viewing the river as a resource for leisure recreation; and tourists are discovering the historic villages and picturesque landscapes residents have long valued. The potential benefits to the corridor communities are real and eagerly anticipated.
The Federal Highway Administration estimates that approximately 148,000 visitors will travel the route per year, contributing over 20 million dollars into local economies.
