Gallatin County: Starting at the Illinois-Indiana state border, follow IL Rt. 141 past the town of New Haven. Just west of New Haven, turn south (left) on Shawneetown/New Haven Road and continue to Shawneetown. Then turn east (left) on Galt Ave, traveling past Westwood Cemetery to Old Rt. 13. Follow Old Rt. 13 to Old Shawneetown. From Old Shawneetown, then turn west (right) on New Rt. 13 and follow west to Equality. From Rt. 13 at Equality, turn south (left) on Calhoun Street, go past round-about in Equality to the Ohio River Visitor Center, then turn right on to Rt. 142 (Lane Street). Take Rt. 142 to Forest Road then turn south (left).

Saline County: On Forest Road, continue to the Saline County Conservation Area and past the Garden of the Gods to Karbers Ridge Road. At Karbers Ridge Road, turn east (left) and travel past Rim Rock and Pounds Hollow Recreation Area to Rt. 1.

Hardin County: Turn south (right) on Rt. 1 and follow to Cave-in-Rock on the Ohio River. In Cave-in-Rock, turn west (right) on Clay Street. Clay Street becomes Tower Rock Road west of town and continues southwest to the intersection with Rt. 146. Turn west (left) on Rt. 146 and continue to Elizabethtown and Rosiclare. Take spur to Rosiclare to visit historic downtown area and the beautiful riverfront then travel back to Rt. 146.

Pope County: Continue west on Rt. 146 to the four-way stop in Golconda. At four-way, turn east (left) to take spur to historic downtown Golconda and to the levee overlooking the Ohio River. Back at the four-way stop, turn south (left) on Rt. 146 and travel south to Bay City Road then turn east (left) on Bay City Road. Travel through Bay City then enjoy the scenic drive to New Liberty Road. At the intersection of New Liberty Road and Unionville Road, turn west (right). On Unionville Road, travel past the Kincaid Mounds Archaeological Site then continue the journey west to Brookport.

Massac County: At the intersection of Unionville Road and Rt. 45, turn left to take the spur to Brookport then travel west on Rt. 45 to Metropolis. Traveling over Interstate 24, Rt. 45 is marked 5th Street in Metropolis. Continue west on 5th Street past Fort Massac State Park and on to Metropolis. Turn south (left) on Metropolis Street, then right (west) on 2nd Street, go past Harrah’s Metropolis Casino then turn north (right) on Ferry Street. At the four-way light of 5th and Ferry, turn west (left) on 5th, drive 1 block then turn north (right) at the east side of the courthouse to Market Street. Travel north on Market Street and turn west (left) at Rt. 45 (at the stop light). Continue traveling northwest on Rt. 45 to Joppa Road. Turn west (left) on Joppa Road and follow it until it reaches the town of Joppa. In Joppa, turn north (right) on North Avenue, then turn left on Joppa Bypass Road. Take Joppa Bypass Road to Portland Road, then turn right on Portland Road. Travel one mile to Grand Chain Road then turn left. Take Grand Chain Road through Hillerman.

Pulaski County: West of Hillerman, Grand Chain Road becomes Tick Ridge Road. Follow Tick Ridge Road west to New Grand Chain. Turn south (left) on Rt. 37 and travel to Olmsted Road, turning east (left) on Olmsted Road and follow to Olmsted. At Olmsted, turn south (left) on Rt. 37 and travel through Mound City, past the Mound City National Cemetery.

Alexander County: Just past the Mound City National Cemetery, at the intersection of Rt. 37 and Rt. 51, turn south (left) on Rt. 51. Follow Rt. 51 to Rt. 3 then turn east (left) on Rt. 3 and follow it through Cairo to the intersection of US Routes 60 and 62. Turn east (left) into Fort Defiance State Park which will mark the Confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, as well as the end of the Ohio River Scenic Byway.
